2010 MCB Kids Casting Contest
The Greater Philadelphia Outdoor
Sportshow, Oaks, PA.
February 28, 2010
MCB hosted their annual Kids Casting
Contest at the Greater Philadelphia Outdoor Sportshow located at the Oaks Expo Center in Oaks, PA. Over 125 boy's
and girl's, ages 7 to 10 and 11 to 14, competed in a flipping, pitching, and casting contest.
The kid's were provided identical closed-face spinning combos and were taught by club members the art of
casting a 3/8 ounce jig to a target area for points.
The top three individual point totals within
the two age brackets won Penn Rod and Reel Combos, Penn Spinning Reels, and Tackle Boxes as prizes. In addition, fishing
hats and plastic fishing lures were provided to all the kids that registered to compete in the casting contest. As an
additional bonus, eight children won a Penn or Shimano Spinning Reel which were provided by our gracious
sponsors as door prizes during the course of the contest.
A special thank you goes out to all our

of catching the "BIG ONE"!

Here is a nice letter sent to the club from Christine Murphy, mother of
Nick Murphy (pictured above with the catfish) who won 1st place in the 11 to 14 age group.
My son Nick won the casting competition yesterday, and I just
want to say thank you to all the volunteers who made yesterday possible.
He won a fishing pole and I won something
more -- when he got home, he didn't want to play xbox. He sat on the chair with his fishing pole practicing the
new technique that you taught him. He was sitting there on the gliding chair, a basket a few feet away just practicing
practicing.... That was a very good thing.
So, thank you to all who helped.
Thanks so much,
Christine Murphy
