July 18, 2010, Tydings Marina, Susquehanna Flats, MD. Everyone knew it was going to be a hot day on the bay. And it was, as air temperature at takeoff was 77 and daytime temperatures reach in the low to mid 90's. Water temperature ranged from 85 to 88 degrees during the day. Low tide arrived at 11 am. Fishing conditions could be described as extremely challenging.

Seven bass survived the hot tub livewell conditions. Bennie Brown was the only angler to manage catching two fish. His combined weight of 3.52 bested the rest and he took home first place honors. Lunker went to Gary Woomer with a nice 3.33 bass.

June 25 & 26, 2010, Cayuga Lake, Seneca Falls, NY. For the first time in many, many years, the Cayuga Lake away tournament attracted a great turnout. Ken Bittner (aka Hoover), an original founding member of MCB and long time club President, and guests Jim Conway and Steve Brown joined eleven club members for four days of fishing the beautiful finger lake region of  Seneca Falls, NY.

Wednesday and Thursday provided practice days for those who could get away from work and family. Practice on Wednesday was greeted with perfect weather to run the lake and explore the clear water. Calm wind allowed those who fished an opportunity to utilize numerous patterns at various depths. Catches were reported in good numbers with plenty of 2 and 3 lb fish caught and released on a variety of  baits to include worms, senkos, creature baits, swim baits, jerk baits, and spinnerbaits. Thursday's weather brought in heavy 20-25 MPH wind and a rain front later in the day. Catches were down however the quality fish seemed to remain active as the front moved through.

The tournament was formatted as a combined two-day individual weight event for club points. Lunker was weighed each day and paid out on each day. A side bet was created for total boat weight combined for day’s one and two.

Interesting enough, the individual (he shall remain anonymous) who suggested the above noted format, literally stole everyone’s money and did not buy one beer for the gracious donors! That is like the Little Fella making love to a blow-up doll with his wife in the next room. That's just plain wrong!

Weather for day one of the tournament was perfect. Sunny, light wind, air temperature around 75-80, water temperature around 75 degrees on the north end of the lake with cooler temperatures as you fished further south on the lake. Saturday’s weather was a contrast to Friday, with clouds, wind, cooler air temperatures, and rain late in the day.

Throughout the two days, 126 fish were taken to the scales for a total weight of 251.41 lbs and an average weight of 2 lbs. Largemouth accounted for 121 fish and five fish were smallmouth. Unfortunately, eight fish were dead at the scales (none by the Michael Jackson impersonator Ranger Rick). Let us get those live wells working properly!

Day one lunker went to our guest Jim Conway with a 3.63 lb largemouth caught on a weighted black/blue flake senko. Second day lunker at 4.23 lbs was caught by Gary Woomer on a Berkley green pumpkin power hawg.

First place winner for club points went to Gary Woomer with 10 bass for 27.30 lbs, a 2.73 lb average. Second place winner was Pete Yaskowski with 10 bass weighing 22.50 lbs. In third place was Tom Bell with 10 bass for 21.15 lbs.

Side bet winner was Gary and Jim with a combined two-day boat weight of 42.88 lbs, barely beating Pete Yas and Bennie who caught 41.49 lbs.

Speaking for all who attended, the trip was great, a ton of laughs, excellent fishing, no major problems that could not be fixed, and we always welcome KB, Jim, and Steve to join us fishing.

May 22, 2010, Tydings Marina, Susquehanna Flats, MD. The day started with high expectations, cloud cover, a slight breeze, 6 am high tide, and water temperature around 67-68. Nine anglers attempted to bag a limit of 15 inch bass. None accomplished the limit task and only six fish made it to the scale.

Gary Woomer found the senko bite in a weedbed up the Susquehanna and culled through numerous short fish to boat two largemouth and one smallie for 5.55 lbs and first place. Lunker of the day belonged to John McVay with a 3.66 lb largemouth caught in front of the VA Hospital on a crankbait.

May 8, 2010, Anchor Marine, North East River, MD. The club's third tournament started off the day knowing 25-30 MPH winds were going to blow out of the SW. An early morning bite would be critical for a successful bag of bass.

As projected, the wind kicked up around 10 am and forced most anglers off the main river to seek shelter from the 3 foot rollers. Water temperature ranged from 67 to 72. It appeared most bass were post spawn and those that were caught were hooked early in the morning.

Johnny McVay and Brian Nagy figured out the early morning pattern to land six bass out of the canal's near the boat launch in the North East. Johnny won the tournament with four LM weighing 9.98 lbs. Tom Bell regained the lunker of the year with a nice 4.88 lb largemouth caught out of the Susquehanna River.

April 24, 2010, Tydings Marine, Susquehanna Flats. The club's second tournament of the year was a picture perfect day with the weather. Partial sun, air temperature in the 60's, water temperature between 60 and 64, slight wind, and high tide at blast off. Seven boats and 12 anglers fished from 6:30 till 2PM for a five bass limit of 15 inch green fish.

The anticipated pattern by most anglers had the fish staging off of bedding areas. As the day progressed, it became apparent the 15 inch green fish would be a challange. At the end of the day, seven largemouth and one smallie came to the scales. Dave Brown was the winner with a 5.94 lb sack and Pete Yas boated lunker of the day with a 4.68 lb largemouth.

April 11, 2010, Delaware River. Opening day of the 2010 season provided 12 anglers the pleasure of fishing the Mighty "D". Boats launched out of the luxurious Linden Avenue Resort and Yacht Club Basin at 7 AM with a dead low tide to start the day. In typical fashion, the Delaware was very stingy with giving up 12 inch bass. However, several anglers put together a few patterns and had success with catching a few bass for the post tournament weigh-in festivities scheduled at the Linden Avenue Yacht Club. Greeting the anglers at the ramp upon their return from a hard day of fishing were hundreds of trailer trash misfits, tramps, warlocks, and prospective WalMart employees. A beautiful ending to a beautiful day of fishing on the scenecially majestic Delaware River!

Air temperature reached into the 70's with wind about 10 mph. Water temperature ranged between 58 and 62 degrees further back in the coves. Water clarity, depending where on the river you were fishing, reached 2-3 feet. Salem Harbor, Dredge Harbor, and Tullytown Cove produced most of the fish. The most common bait of the day was a small 3" or 4" senko, 4" worm, and crankbait. Here are the final results.

March 28, 2010, Blue Marsh Lake. Overcast and windy, air temps in the 40's, water temp 48-51, water visability 2-3 feet. The 2010 MCB club warm-up fielded eight participants shaking off their winter rust and finding out it does pay to change your line when a new season begins. Boats were launched around 8:30am in hopes of the sun breaking through, however, that plan never came together. The day ended at 1 PM with Gary in the parking lot waiting for the Master Mechanic to fix his trolling motor (will it ever end?). The handheld scale revealed John McVay as winner of the lunker pot with a fatty stub of a LM that weighted 2.9 lbs, narrowly beating Ranger Rick. In all five fish were caught throughout the day.

Fishing is not a sport, it's a way of life!
