October 23, 2011, TX #10, Blue Marsh Lake, PA.

The last club tournament of the year created a fish off for 2011 MCB AOY with John McVay and Gary Woomer. Heavy fog engulfed the lake throughout the morning which prevented any boat from running to preferred locations. The fog finally lifted around 9:30 to allow movement on the water, however the bite for a 15" bass was quite difficult. Water temperature was 58-59 degrees, and once the fog lifted, the weather turned to a picture perfect fall fishing day.

At days end, Hank "The Tank" Szczepanik
finished at the top of the pack with two LM bass for 4.22 lbs. Bennie "The Blade" Brown, slinging his spinner bug, caught a nice 3.55 lb smallie for second place and tournament lunker. Brian "Watch Your Step" Nagy finished in third place with a smallmouth bass weighing 2.96 lbs. A total of seven 15" bass found their way to the scales for an average weight of 2.62 lbs.

As the day's weigh-in concluded, 2011 Angler Of The Year honors was awarded to John "URA President" McVay. Throughout the year, John compiled three wins, a second place, and two third place finishes to outdistance Gary "The Gman" Woomer for the award. To Gary's credit, he finished the year with four wins and a second place finish. Between both anglers, they dominated the tournament year with a combined seven first place finishes out of ten MCB tournaments. Great competition guys!!!!!!!

April 16, 2011, TX #2, Northeast River, MD.

Because of forecasted winds up to 25 mph, the club decided to change the launch site from Elk Neck State Park to Anchor Marine in the Northeast River. Thirteen anglers fished in miserable conditions of 45-degree morning temperatures, then late morning rain and wind that pounded them for the rest of the day. Water temperature hovered around 55 to 57 degrees throughout the day with normal visibility for the Northeast River; however, very little emergent grass was visible.

At days end, Johnny McVay led all anglers with three largemouth bass that weighed 7.01 lbs. Fishing primarily down river in the Cara Cove area, Johnny Mac boated his fish on a black/blue sided, white belly Big O crankbait and golden shiner spinnerbait. Pete Yaskowski weighed in two largemouth bass for 5.85 lbs, good enough for second place. Yas caught his bass with a brown/brown 1/8oz Slo-Mo jig and pig in the second cut/canal down from the boat launch off a dock and sea wall. Third place and lunker for the day went to Pete Bucci with one largemouth pig that weighed 5.76 lbs. Bucci caught his lunker in the second cut/canal flipping a 1/4oz green pumpkin/silver flake speed craw to a small mud bluff bank.

Rounding out the field of fish catches, Tom bell had two bass for 5.51 lbs that he caught on a baby bass crankbait over small spots of grass. Gary Woomer caught one bass off a dock with a black/blue jig and pig that weighed 2.62 lbs. All totaled, the nine bass caught during the day averaged 2.97 lbs.

April 3, 2011, TX #1, Delaware River, PA.

Well, the season opening tournament on the Delaware River graced eleven anglers with the challenge of fishing the last two hours of a falling tide in 44 degree water. An additional challenge was provided by 15 MPH winds. The end result was two small bass for the scales.

Dave Brown, fishing as a rider, caught a 2 lb smallmouth on a crankbait off a main river point outside Tullytown Cove. Dave's monster bass won 1st place and lunker beer money which he will gladly spend on the club at the next meeting. John McVay, also as a rider, caught a 1.44 lb largemouth in Dredge Harbor on a speed craw for 2nd place.

The rest of the participants just felt like providing a financial contribution to Dave and John!

March 27, 2011, Club Warm-up, Blue Marsh Lake, PA.

The club warm-up at Blue Marsh Lake produced some nice bass for those who braved the cold weather elements. The water temperature was around 43-45 degrees with a slight stain. Gary led the day with five bass, anchored by a 4.6 lb largemouth, caught on a green/brown bitsy bug jig. Greg caught three bass on a green/pumpkin speed craw that included a 5.2 lb largemouth and a 4.4 lb smallmouth. Bennie landed a 3.6 lb smallmouth on a watermellon chigger craw.
